Yvonne Jegede Appeals Blogger "Justice Crack"

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Yvonne Jegede has made a public appeal to the Nigerian military authorities, pleading for the release of social media influencer and blogger, Justice Crack. In a video message, Jegede acknowledged that while the blogger may have overstepped legal boundaries, his continued detention is becoming "embarrassing" and is taking a severe toll on his young family.

Justice Crack was reportedly arrested and arraigned in early May 2026 following allegations that he incited military personnel to question the legitimacy of their commanders and made claims regarding the welfare of soldiers on the frontline. While the Defence Headquarters has defended the arrest as a necessary measure for national security and military discipline, Jegede urged the authorities to adopt a more "fatherly" and temperate approach. "I am coming on his behalf, his wife, kids, and associates to say please release him back to his family," the actress stated, emphasizing that civilians should generally avoid meddling in military affairs.

Justice Crack is accused of inciting rebellion and spreading misinformation regarding the feeding and treatment of Nigerian soldiers.

On May 4, 2026, activists and youths—including notable figures like Omoyele Sowore—formed a human blockade around DSS operatives, demanding his immediate freedom.

The court has reportedly adjourned his case until May 26, 2026, meaning he could remain in custody for several more weeks unless granted bail or released following diplomatic and public appeals.

As of today, the military and the Department of State Services (DSS) have not officially responded to the actress's plea. The case continues to highlight the delicate balance between social media activism and national security laws in Nigeria, as well as the increasing role of celebrities in advocating for the rights of digital creators.

Do you believe that social media influencers should be held to military-level accountability for their posts, or is Yvonne Jegede right that a "fatherly" warning is a more appropriate response? Share your comments below!
