"You Can't Win With Just Morals": DeeOne Criticizes Peter Obi’s 2027 Strategy

Comedian and social commentator DeeOne publicly criticizess the 2027 campaign strategy of the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi. In a video shared on Monday, February 16, 2026, DeeOne urged the former Anambra State Governor to rethink his approach, specifically calling for more aggressive campaign spending and a shift away from relying solely on his reputation for integrity and moral appeal.
DeeOne argued that the Nigerian political landscape is too rugged and capital-intensive for a frugal approach to succeed at the national level. He contended that while Peter Obi’s message of prudence and accountability resonates with many, winning a presidential election against established political machineries requires massive financial mobilization and strategic logistics. He specifically pointed out that Obi needs to "spend the money" if he truly wants to compete with the ruling All Progressives Congress and the People's Democratic Party in the upcoming cycle.
The comedian further suggested that while the "Obidient" movement remains a powerhouse on social media, reaching the deep grassroots requires a level of funding that the current strategy seems to avoid. He noted that Obi’s greatest strength—his reputation for saving money—might be his greatest political weakness in an environment where "stomach infrastructure" still plays a significant role in voter behavior. He remarked that politics is not a church service and emphasized that running against incumbents requires fueling the campaign engine to achieve the necessary reach.
Peter Obi has consistently maintained that his goal is to reform the way politics is funded in Nigeria, but critics like DeeOne believe that without a massive war chest, the movement may struggle to bridge the gap between popularity and actual electoral victory in 2027.
Do you agree with DeeOne that Peter Obi must "spend big" to win in 2027, or should he stick to his principles of prudence even if it costs him the election? Share your comments below!
