“Winning Was Crucial” — Gianluca Scamacca Hails Italy’s Resilience in 3-1 UEFA Nations League Victory Over Türkiye

Atalanta striker Gianluca Scamacca highlighted the importance of resilience and grit after scoring his first international goal in three years during Italy’s 3-1 victory against Türkiye at the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Scamacca broke the deadlock in the 26th minute with a thunderous volley off the underside of the crossbar, capping off a lively opening period. Despite Aral Şimşir bringing Türkiye back level in the 61st minute, Roberto Mancini’s tactical triple-substitution in the 55th minute swung the momentum back to the host nation. Second-half substitutes Riccardo Calafiori (64') and Francesco Pio Esposito (87') both found the net to seal a crucial three points for the Azzurri.
Speaking post-match on the team's performance, Scamacca expressed his delight at getting back on the scoresheet while pointing to the squad's character:
“Winning was crucial today. I am very happy with the goal, especially after three years, but the most important thing was helping the team get the three points. We had to dig deep at times, but showed our resilience when Türkiye pushed back in the second half.”
