United States Congressman Riley Moore has revealed that Washington will heavily scrutinize Nigeria’s upcoming 2027 general elections, warning that future security assistance and financial backing are explicitly tied to the transparency of the electoral process and the protection of religious freedoms. The Republican lawmaker from West Virginia disclosed this during a recent broadcast interview with NoireTV.
According to Moore, the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic cycle has become a front-burner issue for American lawmakers. He confirmed that the U.S. House of Representatives is currently deliberating an appropriations bill carrying strict oversight guidelines regarding Washington’s diplomatic and military relationship with the West African nation.
"What I can say is that we are going to be watching the results and how these elections unfold and how they are executed. And that is something that myself and the administration are going to be paying very close attention to."
— U.S. Congressman Riley Moore
