English Premier League giants Liverpool have finalized a deal to sign Barcelona defender and club captain Ronald Araújo on a season-long loan for the 2026–27 campaign. The transfer includes an option to make the move permanent for a fee of approximately £47 million (€55 million). The 27-year-old Uruguayan international accepted a pay cut to facilitate the transfer to Anfield, where he will wear the No. 33 shirt.

The acquisition provides defensive reinforcement as Liverpool navigate squad depth issues after the exit of Ibrahima Konaté. Capable of playing both as a central defender and at right-back, Araújo arrives with extensive experience, having recorded 213 appearances and 14 goals for Barcelona while winning three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, and three Spanish Super Cups.

“I can't wait to get started. I'm very, very happy. I'm excited to be here at this massive club with lots of history... I think it was the ideal move for me at this stage in my career. I think it was a move that was necessary for me to take.”
