Suspect Arrested After Super Falcons Suffer Cash Theft at Morocco Hotel Ahead of WAFCON 2026

The Super Falcons' preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) hit an unexpected snag in Casablanca, Morocco, after several players reported that over $1,000 in cash was stolen from their hotel rooms.

However, swift action by Moroccan authorities has led to the arrest of a suspect who has reportedly confessed to the crime.

Esther Okoronkwo raised the alarm on social media, accusing housekeeping staff at the Marriott Hotel in Casablanca of taking cash from wallets while players were away from their rooms during training camp.

Among those who reported losses were Okoronkwo ($700), team captain Rasheedat Ajibade ($200), Joy Omewa ($120), Osinachi Ohale ($100), and Halimatu Ayinde ($100).

Okoronkwo noted that initial attempts to resolve the matter with hotel management met with unhelpful and disrespectful responses, prompting the squad to take their grievances public.

Moroccan law enforcement stepped in, leading to the apprehension of a suspect who confessed to the theft. Authorities confirmed that full restitution will be made to the affected players as legal proceedings move forward.

With the security issue resolved and the team relocated to Rabat for their Group C fixtures, coach Justine Madugu's side has turned its full attention back to the pitch. The 10-time African champions open their title defence against Malawi, with group matches against Zambia and Egypt to follow.
