Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has made an immediate impact upon his return to Chippa United, helping the South African Premiership side claim victory in the Eastern Cape pre-season tournament.
The triumph provides a strong start for the 30-year-old shot-stopper following his recent return to the Chilli Boys, where he is aiming to reclaim his position as the club's first-choice goalkeeper ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Chippa United kicked off the tournament with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Ravens FC to earn a spot in the final.
The Chilli Boys faced Highbury FC in the final, with the match finishing 1–1 at the end of regulation time. Chippa United held their nerve in the shoot-out, securing a 4–2 victory on penalties to lift the trophy.
Nwabali rejoined the Eastern Cape outfit earlier this month after five months away from active club football following a mutual contract termination in February.
Having re-established himself in a familiar environment, the Nigerian international will look to build match fitness and regain momentum to solidify both his club starting role and his place in the national team setup.
Do you think returning to Chippa United is the right move for Nwabali to get his career back on track, or should he have held out longer for a move to Europe? Leave your thoughts and comments below!
