The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, has officially declared his intention to run for the Agege Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives come 2027. Obasa, who is currently serving his sixth term in the State Assembly and his third term as Speaker, made this announcement during a gathering with stakeholders and supporters in Agege on Wednesday. He explained that after many years of serving at the state level, he is ready to take the experience and leadership he has gathered to the national stage in Abuja.

Obasa told the crowd that his decision to move higher is based on his desire to bring more federal presence and development to the people of Agege. The Speaker promised that if elected to the Green Chamber, he would focus on making sure that the needs of his people are prioritized in the national budget and that more infrastructure projects are brought to the area.

This declaration has already started causing a lot of movement in Lagos politics, as many are curious to see who will succeed him as the representative for Agege Constituency 1 in the State House of Assembly. Already, names like Oluwagbenga Abiola are being mentioned as potential successors for his current seat. Obasa’s move to the House of Representatives is seen as a major step in his political career, and many of his loyalists have pledged to work hard to ensure his victory in 2027. The Speaker remains a powerful figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a very close ally of the presidency.
