Dele Momodu Blasts Politicians Over 2027 Zoning Plans
Omoyeni Olabode

Dele Momodu has come out to criticize Nigerian politicians for how they are using the "zoning" formula ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, Momodu argued that many politicians only talk about zoning when it suits their personal interests to win power. He explained that instead of looking for the best person who can actually fix Nigeria's problems, the political class is more concerned with using geographical rotation as a shortcut to the presidency.
The former presidential aspirant noted that zoning has become a tool for "lazy" politicians who cannot win elections on their own merit. According to him, the focus on which part of the country should produce the next president is distracting Nigerians from the real issues like the high cost of living, insecurity, and the struggling economy. Momodu insisted that for Nigeria to move forward, the country needs a leader with a clear vision and the competence to deliver, regardless of where they come from in the North or South.
He further warned that if the major political parties continue to prioritize zoning over capacity, the 2027 elections might not bring the positive change people are hoping for. He believes that the survival of the nation depends on picking a leader who understands how to manage resources and bring development to every corner of Nigeria.
What is your take on Dele Momodu's opinion that zoning is just a tool for politicians to win? Please drop your comments below!
