Secret Burial Plot, Ogun Police, Three Suspects

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled an attempt to secretly bury a murder victim and arrested three suspects in connection with the crime in Akute, Ifo Local Government Area.

The suspects, Maureen Okirie (35), Salia Karikari (15), and Jubril Karikari (12), were apprehended following intelligence reports of suspicious activity in the area.

According to the police, officers arrived at the scene to find one of the suspects attempting to bury a blood-soaked corpse in a shallow grave, in what authorities believe was an effort to conceal the alleged murder.

Preliminary findings indicated that the victim, identified as 38-year-old Stanley Okirie, sustained a severe head injury, reportedly inflicted with a wooden pestle believed to be the murder weapon.

Police investigations further revealed that the suspects, who are said to be relatives of the deceased, allegedly conspired both in the killing and the attempted cover-up. The weapon has since been recovered, while the body has been deposited at a mortuary for autopsy.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, described the act as “cruel, inhumane, and deeply disturbing,” particularly given the alleged involvement of family members. He assured the public of a thorough investigation and vowed that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly as part of efforts to combat crime in the state.
