Russian General

A senior Russian military officer was killed on Monday morning after an explosive device detonated under his car in Moscow, Russia. Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov, head of the Operational Training Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces’ General Staff, died from injuries sustained in the blast, according to the Russian Investigative Committee. The explosion occurred on Yasenevaya Street, with authorities confirming that the device was placed beneath his vehicle before it was triggered.

Russian investigators have launched a criminal case into the incident, with one line of inquiry suggesting that Ukrainian special services may have orchestrated the attack, though Ukraine has not publicly claimed responsibility for Sarvarov’s killing. No immediate official comment has been made by Kyiv. Russian authorities released video footage showing the wreckage of the destroyed vehicle and have indicated they are exploring multiple possibilities as they pursue the investigation.

Sarvarov was a highly ranked officer with extensive experience in Moscow’s military operations and training structures. His death adds to a pattern of high-level targeted killings of Russian military figures during the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, raising concerns about internal security in the Russian capital. The attack occurred against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions and ongoing efforts to negotiate peace, intensifying global focus on the broader conflict.
