Peter Okoye Tells Court He Received Over $800,000 in P-Square Royalties, Denies Jude Okoye Share

Singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, testified before a Federal High Court in Lagos that he received more than $800,000 in royalties from France-based music rights organization SACEM for songs recorded by the iconic music group P-Square, maintaining that his elder brother and former manager, Jude Okoye, was not entitled to a share.
Testifying virtually before Justice Alexander Owoeye during cross-examination by defense counsel Clement Onwuewunor (SAN), Peter confirmed receiving the sum between 2016 and 2026 for ten P-Square tracks. The testimony came as part of the ongoing trial where Jude Okoye and his firm, Northside Music Limited, face a seven-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged financial fraud totaling ₦1.3 billion and $1 million—charges to which Jude has pleaded not guilty.

During cross-examination, Peter conceded that Jude signed the original SACEM contract on behalf of "the team" and directed several of the group's classic music videos, but maintained that writing, composing, and performing credit rested solely with himself and twin brother Paul Okoye.

He also admitted under questioning that he could not provide written documentation to back earlier public statements claiming Jude took months to deliver backend royalty records requested in 2022.

Justice Owoeye subsequently adjourned the trial until December 8 and 9, 2026, for continuation of proceedings.
