Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a Lagos pastor and his wife after uncovering more than 11 kilograms of skunk concealed in hidden compartments of their car.
The suspects, identified as Pastor Afolabi Hodonu, 45, who oversees the Celestial Church of Christ at Agonvi Sea Beach in the Sakpo area of the Seme border, Badagry, and his wife, Mrs Success Hodonu, 35, were apprehended by NDLEA officers at the Gbaji checkpoint on Thursday, April 2.
According to a statement issued by the agency’s spokesman, Femi Babafemi, a search of the couple’s Honda Pilot SUV led to the discovery of blocks of skunk carefully hidden within modified sections of the vehicle.
The arrest was made following an earlier interception at the same checkpoint on March 30, when NDLEA operatives apprehended a suspected fake security agent transporting skunk. Investigations from that seizure reportedly led officers to the cleric and his wife.
The illicit drugs are understood to have a significant street value, and the couple are currently in NDLEA custody as further inquiries continue into the case.
The development highlights ongoing efforts by the NDLEA to disrupt drug trafficking networks and enforce anti-narcotics laws across key routes in the country.
