The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has launched an investigation into allegations that some of its officials extorted up to ₦100,000 from commercial bus drivers in the state.
The allegations, which reportedly surfaced online, accused certain officers of impounding vehicles and demanding large sums of money before releasing them.
In response, LASTMA said it is treating the matter with utmost seriousness, stressing that it does not tolerate extortion, misconduct or abuse of office among its personnel.
The agency disclosed that a thorough and impartial investigation has commenced to ascertain the authenticity of the claims. It assured that any official found culpable would face appropriate disciplinary action in line with established rules and procedures.
As part of the probe, the authority has also called on the individual who made the allegation to provide evidence to support the claims, noting that transparency and fairness will guide the process.
LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, accountability and ethical conduct, urging members of the public to report any misconduct through its official channels.
The development highlights ongoing concerns about alleged extortion within traffic enforcement operations, as authorities move to address complaints and maintain public trust.
