The Lagos State Taskforce has launched a specialised anti-crime patrol unit aimed at strengthening enforcement operations and curbing criminal activities across the state.
The initiative was unveiled by the agency’s chairman, Adetayo Akerele, at its headquarters in Bolade, Oshodi, as part of renewed efforts to improve security and environmental compliance.
According to Akerele, the unit will function as a rapid response team tasked with identifying, arresting and prosecuting offenders involved in offences such as drug peddling, street urchinism and the activities of suspected “area boys,” also known as “Omotaku.”
He added that the team would also target criminal hideouts and address related offences, including indiscriminate waste disposal, attacks on government officials, quack practices and “one-chance” robbery operations.
The chairman stated that the unit would operate round the clock, with intensified surveillance and patrols across identified hotspots in the state, in a bid to proactively detect and prevent crime before it escalates.
Akerele emphasised the agency’s determination to rid Lagos of criminal elements, noting that sustained enforcement would compel offenders to either desist or leave the state.
He also called on residents to support security agencies by providing credible and timely information, stressing that public cooperation remains vital to maintaining safety and order.
The launch of the patrol unit underscores ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Taskforce to reinforce security measures and enhance the protection of lives and property.
