The Oyo State Government has approved a ₦650 million take-off grant for the Teaching and Research Farm at the Iseyin campus of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, as part of broader efforts to strengthen the institution’s academic and research capacity.
Governor Seyi Makinde, represented by his deputy Bayo Lawal, announced the development during the university’s 18th convocation ceremony held in Ogbomoso.
According to the governor, the funding is aimed at advancing strategic reforms and positioning the institution as a competitive centre for innovation, research, and development. He added that the investment aligns with the state’s economic priorities, particularly in agriculture, food security, youth employment, and agribusiness expansion.
Beyond the research farm, the government also pledged support for infrastructure, information and communication technology, healthcare services, housing, and mobility within the Iseyin campus.
Makinde noted that since the resolution of the ownership dispute between Oyo and Osun states, LAUTECH has witnessed improved stability, uninterrupted academic calendars, and renewed investor confidence. He commended the institution’s management, staff, and students for sustaining its growth trajectory.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Universities Commission, Olu Aina, reflected on the diplomatic efforts that resolved the long-standing ownership dispute. He emphasised that prioritising the welfare of students and staff was key to achieving a peaceful resolution.
Also addressing the graduands, Vice-Chancellor Razaq Kalilu encouraged them to remain committed to continuous learning and adaptability in a rapidly evolving global landscape.
Similarly, Pro-Chancellor Ayodeji Omole highlighted the institution’s resilience despite infrastructure and resource challenges.
The initiative shows the state government’s commitment to strengthening higher education and using it as a driver of economic growth and innovation.
