Oyo Government, Curfew, 10 Local Government Areas

The Oyo State Government has announced the removal of the temporary movement restriction previously enforced across 10 local government areas near the Old Oyo National Park, while confirming that security activities in the affected communities will continue.

The restriction had been introduced to support rescue efforts following the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area.

In an official update released on Saturday, the state government stated that residents can now return to their daily routines but urged continued cooperation with security agencies working to restore safety across the region.

Authorities explained that although the curfew has been lifted, operations aimed at tackling criminal activities and securing the release of victims remain active.

The earlier restriction was introduced as a temporary measure and covered a daily period from late afternoon to early morning. It was later extended to allow security teams additional time to carry out coordinated operations.

The affected local government areas included Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo and Atiba.

The government’s response followed a coordinated attack on schools located in the Yawota and Ahoro-Esienle communities, where armed attackers reportedly kidnapped several pupils and members of staff, raising concerns about security in parts of the South-West.

Since the incident, state authorities have worked alongside the military, police, civil defence personnel, Amotekun Corps and other security bodies to intensify search and rescue efforts.

Officials have maintained that recovering the victims and strengthening security across the affected communities remain key priorities.

Should temporary curfews remain a key security strategy during kidnapping emergencies, or should governments prioritise alternative approaches? Let's hear you in the comments.
