Former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has appealed to Anambra residents and political actors to ensure a peaceful and credible governorship election on November 8, 2025.
Speaking at his Agulu residence in Anaocha LGA, Obi encouraged citizens to turn out in large numbers and exercise their democratic rights, stressing that the poll should reflect the will of the people. He urged contestants to prioritise the state’s peace, security and development, noting that victory for any candidate should translate to progress for Anambra.
Obi acknowledged his cordial relationship with incumbent Governor Chukwuma Soludo of APGA, APC’s Nicholas Ukachukwu and Labour Party candidate George Moughalu, but said he would vote for his party’s flagbearer, urging voters to support candidates of their choice.
He also called on INEC and security agencies to remain neutral and professional throughout the process.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, confirmed full readiness for the election, with over 24,000 ad-hoc staff and 540 accredited journalists deployed across 5,718 polling units. Sixteen candidates from 16 parties are contesting, including Soludo who is seeking re-election.
