China and Nigeria have reaffirmed their commitment to deeper trade and economic cooperation at the 2025 China Commodities Expo held at Landmark Event Centre, Lagos.
The three-day event, organised by China’s Ministry of Commerce, brought together more than 250 Chinese manufacturers and over 5,000 business delegates across technology, renewable energy, agriculture, automobiles, and manufacturing.
According to China Customs, bilateral trade between January and September 2025 reached $20 billion, reflecting a 32.6% year-on-year rise. China’s Consul General in Lagos, Yan Yuqing, noted that the expo serves as a platform to advance industrial development, digital economy collaboration, green energy projects and infrastructure investments. She also highlighted China’s role as Africa’s largest trading partner, with Nigeria contributing nearly $21.9bn to China–Africa trade in 2024.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu said the partnership supports Nigeria’s goal of industrialisation and local job creation, boosted by projects such as the Lekki Deep Sea Port and Free Zone. He urged Nigerian businesses to pursue smart partnerships and technology transfer.
The expo is expected to attract fresh investments, enhance manufacturing capacity and strengthen the long-standing Sino-Nigerian economic relationship.
