Aunty Ajara

The Nigerian film industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of beloved "small-size" actress Ajara Lasisi, popularly known as Aunty Ajara. Her passing was confirmed in the early hours of Thursday, February 5, 2026, after a brief but intense struggle with a liver-related illness. Her elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, broke the news in a viral video, thanking the public for the overwhelming support shown to the actress during her final days.

Aunty Ajara’s health challenges became a matter of public concern in late January when colleagues, including Ronke Oshodi-Oke and Mama No Network, raised the alarm regarding her deteriorating condition. It was revealed that the 31-year-old actress was battling liver disease while also being pregnant, a complication that sparked an outpouring of financial aid and prayers from fans worldwide. Despite receiving over ₦5 million in donations and intensive medical care, her condition reportedly worsened until her demise.

In a heartfelt tribute, actress Mama No Network urged the public to cease all financial contributions to the previously shared medical accounts, noting that the funds were no longer required. She described Ajara as a courageous fighter who felt the "immense love" of her supporters until the very end. The Yoruba film community has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of a talent known for her vibrant and humorous roles that often brightened the screen.

The late actress, originally from Ogun State, was widely respected for her dedication to her family, reportedly using much of her earnings to care for her mother, who is a stroke survivor. As the news of her death continues to spread, tributes have flooded social media from fans and industry giants alike, honoring her legacy as a resilient and beloved figure in Nollywood.

What was your favorite memory or movie role of Aunty Ajara? Should the industry do more to establish health insurance funds for actors in such critical conditions? Share your comments below!
