Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has heavily criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over his decision to embark on an two-week working vacation to Europe, describing the trip as insensitive given the mounting socio-economic challenges in the country. In a statement released on Sunday, the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate expressed concern that the nation's leadership is embarking on leisure trips while citizens grapple with economic hardship and widespread security threats.
Atiku pointed out that key indicators—including severe inflation, food insecurity, and escalating banditry—demand full-time operational leadership rather than long-distance governance. He argued that taking time off during critical national crises demonstrates a lack of urgency and deep disconnect from the day-to-day realities of everyday Nigerians across the nation.
