The Nigeria Customs Service has cautioned traders against attempting to circumvent the National Single Window platform, emphasising strict compliance ahead of its official deployment.
The Comptroller-General of the Service, Adewale Adeniyi, issued the warning during the go-live ceremony of the platform held in Lagos. He stressed that the system is designed as a “one-stop shop” for trade documentation and urged stakeholders to follow due process to benefit from its efficiency.
Represented by the Deputy Controller-General in charge of Information Communication Technology and Modernisation, Oluyomi Adebakin, Adeniyi noted that traders who adhere to the system’s requirements would experience faster cargo clearance. He assured that goods could be processed and released within 48 hours if proper documentation is submitted.
He warned, however, that attempts to bypass or manipulate the system would hinder results, reiterating that compliance is key to achieving seamless trade operations. According to him, traders already using the platform correctly are beginning to see positive outcomes.
The Customs boss also highlighted the role of the Service’s existing digital infrastructure, particularly the B’Odogwu platform, describing it as a strong foundation supporting the successful implementation of the National Single Window.
He added that the initiative integrates multiple stakeholders into a unified system, aimed at improving efficiency, transparency, and coordination in Nigeria’s trade processes.
The National Single Window is expected to streamline cargo clearance procedures, reduce delays, and enhance the ease of doing business, provided stakeholders fully comply with its operational guidelines.
