Bauchi Police Raise Alarm Over Manpower, Arms Shortage Amid Rising Security Demands

The Bauchi State Police Command has raised concerns over critical shortages of manpower, arms and ammunition, warning that the gaps are affecting its operational efficiency in tackling crime across the state.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, disclosed this during an official visit by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 12, Vungmoh Kwaimo, to the command headquarters.
Aliyu explained that the shortage of personnel has significantly limited the command’s deployment capacity, making it difficult to respond swiftly to emerging security threats. He noted that the situation is particularly challenging amid increasing security demands across the state.
Despite these constraints, the commissioner maintained that the command has continued to record notable successes in sustaining Bauchi’s reputation as one of the more peaceful states in the country.
He, however, stressed the urgent need for reinforcement, calling for additional personnel to support operations, especially for rapid response duties at the Zone 12 headquarters.
Aliyu further highlighted the necessity for more arms and ammunition to strengthen ongoing efforts aimed at combating criminal activities and enhancing overall security operations.
Responding, the AIG, Kwaimo, commended the command for its achievements and assured that the concerns raised would be escalated to the appropriate authorities for necessary intervention.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to safeguarding lives and property, while emphasising professionalism, discipline and the use of intelligence and technology in modern policing.
The development underscores ongoing challenges within the security sector, as authorities continue to seek improved resources to strengthen policing and maintain public safety.
