Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former senator, has publicly endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, saying they have stabilised Nigeria’s economy and strengthened the nation’s purchasing power. She made the remarks as she officially unveiled her governorship ambition for Ogun State in the 2027 elections.
Speaking at a media briefing held on Saturday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Prof. Obasanjo described the Tinubu administration’s reforms including the stabilisation of the naira and increased international trade cooperation as “positive developments” that are helping to boost economic activity and outlook nationwide. She also praised the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road project, saying the major infrastructure initiative is poised to expand economic opportunities and ease traffic congestion along key transport routes.
On her governorship bid, Prof. Obasanjo said her campaign is serious and aimed at winning the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket on merit, not as a placeholder for another candidate. She outlined a vision for leveraging Ogun State’s industrial growth, agricultural potential and proximity to major ports to create jobs and drive broad-based development.
Highlighting her policy priorities, she emphasised plans to add value in agriculture, expand technology and ICT education, and strengthen tourism, saying these sectors can fuel growth and export opportunities for the state. Prof. Obasanjo also noted her comfort with the APC, citing the presence of former political allies now aligned with the ruling party.
Her announcement adds momentum to the growing list of aspirants preparing for the 2027 governorship race in Ogun, as political activity intensifies across the region.
