Iranian state television has announced that President Masoud Pezeshkian and two senior officials will head the nation’s leadership during a transitional period following the reported death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
According to the state broadcast on Sunday, Pezeshkian will lead a three-member interim leadership team tasked with managing the country’s affairs as Iran navigates the immediate aftermath of Khamenei’s passing.
Joining Pezeshkian in the transitional arrangement is Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the head of Iran’s judiciary, along with another official from the country’s legal council, the report said. The announcement cited Mohammad Mokhber, an adviser to the late supreme leader, as the source of the information.
The formation of this interim leadership follows state media reports confirming Khamenei’s death, which marks a significant moment in Iranian politics and governance. The trio is expected to hold authority until constitutional procedures are followed for the appointment or election of a new supreme leader.
This leadership shift unfolds amid heightened national and international attention on Iran’s future political direction following the loss of its long-serving spiritual and political head.
