Ex-VP Harris Slams Trump for “Dragging US into Unwanted Iran Conflict”

Former United States Vice President Kamala Harris has sharply criticised President Donald Trump, accusing his administration of leading the United States into an unnecessary and dangerous confrontation with Iran. Her comments were made in a statement posted on the social media platform X on Saturday.
In the statement, Harris described recent U.S. strikes on Iranian targets, actions that have drawn global attention amid escalating tensions, as a “dangerous and unnecessary gamble” that risks the lives of American service members and destabilises the Middle East. She insisted that the campaign does not reflect the wishes of the American people.
“Donald Trump is dragging the United States into a war the American people do not want,” Harris wrote, asserting her opposition to what she termed a “regime-change war” in Iran. She argued that such a conflict lacks clear public support and has not been authorised by Congress, raising constitutional concerns about the president’s authority to lead the nation into war without legislative approval.
Harris also criticised Trump’s shift from his earlier campaign rhetoric opposing new foreign wars, calling the current situation “recklessness dressed up as resolve”. She urged lawmakers to exercise their oversight responsibilities to prevent further escalation and emphasised that U.S. troops deserve leadership that prioritises careful decision-making on matters of war and peace.
Her remarks come amid intensifying debate within the United States about the scope and justification of military actions in the Middle East, and as political figures from both sides of the aisle weigh in on the unfolding situation.
