Hashim Says US Airstrikes Highlight APC Security FailuresFormer media aide Gbenga Hashim has criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the federal government for what he describes as security failures exposed by recent United States airstrikes on extremist targets in Nigeria. Hashim said that the strikes on suspected militant camps underscore the inability of Nigerian security forces to independently tackle serious threats within the country, suggesting that reliance on foreign military action reflects a governance weakness under the APC.

In a statement following confirmation of the air operations, Hashim argued that Nigeria’s security architecture has deteriorated over time, pointing to persistent insurgency, banditry and extremist violence across the North-East and other regions. He said the fact that a foreign power conducted strikes on Nigerian soil highlights a failure of leadership and strategy by the APC-led government, which has struggled to end violence despite billions spent on defence and internal security over successive administrations.

Supporters of the APC responded by saying that international cooperation against terrorism is normal and reflects diplomatic partnerships rather than failure. They argued that Nigeria’s military continues to lead ground efforts against violent groups and that support from allies, including intelligence and logistical cooperation, strengthens national operations rather than replacing them. However, Hashim’s position has resonated with critics of the ruling party, who say voters should consider security performance when assessing leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.

What is your view on the role of foreign military support in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity, and do you believe it reflects gaps in national capability or valuable cooperation? Comment below and share your thoughts.
