The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by party chairman Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, held a closed-door meeting with former President Goodluck Jonathan at his office in the Maitama district of Abuja on Tuesday evening. The gathering brought together senior party figures, state PDP chairmen and other stakeholders to consult Jonathan on the party’s internal challenges and upcoming electoral engagements. The delegation arrived at about 5:45 p.m. in several SUVs to begin discussions that lasted for over an hour.

Turaki said the delegates updated Jonathan on the state of the party, legal battles it is facing, and preparations for off-season governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States, as well as the 2027 general elections. According to Turaki, Jonathan reassured members of his loyalty to the PDP, stating he remains an active, card-carrying member who will support the party’s activities and affairs going forward. He emphasised that the former president believes the PDP has done much for him personally and feels a sense of obligation to continue contributing to the party’s progress.

Turaki stressed that the visit was not just ceremonial but intended to seek guidance, advice and encouragement from Jonathan as a senior statesman and veteran party leader. Party leaders say the feedback and assurance obtained from the former president have lifted morale as they navigate internal disputes and look ahead to future elections.

What do you think about Jonathan’s continued involvement in the PDP and its potential impact on party unity and electoral fortunes? Comment below and share your thoughts.
