Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, and his deputy, Chief Monisade Afuye, have formally received their Certificates of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission. The historic event took place on Tuesday at the INEC state headquarters in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, following their victory in the just-concluded governorship election. With this official presentation, Governor Oyebanji has broken a long-standing political record by becoming the very first governor in the history of Ekiti State to secure two consecutive terms back-to-back since the return of democracy in 1999.
The National Commissioner of INEC supervising Oyo, Ekiti, and Lagos States, Mr. Sam Olumekun, presented the certificates to the victorious candidates of the All Progressives Congress. According to the final election results declared by the commission, Oyebanji won the highly competitive June 20 governorship poll by pooling a total of 319,224 votes to defeat his closest rivals. A massive crowd of jubilant party supporters, friends, and top government officials thronged the commission's office and neighboring streets to witness the presentation ceremony.

Speaking shortly after collecting his certificate, Governor Oyebanji thanked the people of Ekiti State for renewing their trust in his leadership and described the victory as a call to greater service. He stated that his second term in office will be fully dedicated to consolidating ongoing developmental infrastructure, creating jobs, and expanding policies that directly improve citizens' welfare. The governor also praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the amended Electoral Act into law, noting that the new electoral reforms heavily improved the transparency and peaceful conduct of the entire voting process.
