2027: ‘We’ve Since Submitted Names to INEC’ — NDC Dismisses Viral Candidate Lists as Fake News

The newly formed Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged the public to completely disregard various lists of its purported 2027 general election candidates currently circulating online, labeling them as the work of political detractors and mischief-makers.
In an official statement released on Friday, June 19, 2026, the NDC National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Morgan Ikenna, made it clear that the political party has already concluded its internal screening and official submission of its authentic flagbearers to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party's warning follows a surge of viral social media publications claiming to outline the NDC's confirmed candidates for gubernatorial, senatorial, and legislative seats across the 36 states, many of which featured highly controversial combinations.
“The attention of the National Working Committee of the Nigeria Democratic Congress has been drawn to a fictitious list of candidates being paraded on various digital platforms. We want to state categorically that these lists did not emanate from the party's secretariat. We have since submitted the authentic names of our candidates to INEC in strict compliance with the electoral guidelines,” Ikenna clarified.
Since its formal registration by INEC earlier this year and the high-profile entry of its 2027 presidential ticket—fronted by Peter Obi and his running mate, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso—thousands of aspirants have rushed to align with the third-party coalition, creating a hotbed for speculative rollouts.
The opposition party warned its fast-growing support base, particularly the youth-led structural movements, to remain vigilant against disinformation campaigns designed to fracture the party’s momentum before the official campaign calendar kicks off.
The statement concluded by advising all media houses and political commentators to always verify candidate authenticities directly through the centralized INEC portal or the official NDC national secretariat, rather than relying on unverified social media graphics.
What are your thoughts on the fake candidate lists targeting the NDC? Do you think the party's rapid growth makes it an easy target for political sabotage ahead of 2027? Please leave your comments and perspectives below!
