The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidate for the June 20, 2026 election in Ekiti State, Dr. Wole Oluyede, has made a bold declaration regarding his political independence, emphasizing that he answers to no political godfather.

Speaking during the intense final stretch of the election campaign, Oluyede made it clear that his loyalty belongs solely to the ordinary citizens of Ekiti State. He stated that he is relying completely on the collective will of the voters to unseat the incumbent All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

“I have no godfather. My only godfather is the collective will of the good people of Ekiti State. I am entering this race completely unbeholden to any individual or political cabal, meaning my administration will focus 100 percent on delivering democratic dividends directly to the masses,” Oluyede declared.

The upcoming Ekiti election has drawn massive national attention, functioning as a critical sub-national battleground for the country's major political parties. Just days prior to Oluyede's declaration, the ruling APC held a massive grand mega rally in Ado-Ekiti. High-ranking federal officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima (representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu) and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, arrived in full force to aggressively campaign for Governor Oyebanji's continuity agenda.

Despite the immense federal backing behind the ruling party and recent internal legal disputes that created a turbulent pre-election cycle for the opposition, Oluyede remains highly confident of pulling off an upset. He has urged the electorate to remain peaceful, reject cash-for-votes schemes at the polling units, and boldly protect their mandates on election day.
