A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted former Attorney‑General of the Federation (AGF) Abubakar Malami and his son, Abdulaziz, bail of ₦200 million each in the ongoing case over alleged terrorism financing and illegal possession of firearms.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled on separate bail applications on Friday, saying the purpose of bail was to ensure the defendants’ attendance at trial. Both were admitted to bail on the condition that they each produce two sureties in a similar sum.
Among other requirements, one of the sureties must own developed landed property in Maitama or Asokoro, Abuja, with the title deed deposited at the court registry. The court also ordered that passports and recent passport photographs of the defendants be deposited with the court.
Malami and his son were remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending fulfilment of the bail conditions. The trial was adjourned to 4 March for commencement.
The Department of State Services (DSS) arraigned them on a five‑count charge alleging that Malami “knowingly abetted terrorism financing” by refusing to prosecute suspected terrorism financiers while he served as AGF, and that both defendants engaged in preparatory conduct to terrorism and unlawful firearms possession.
