Edo Political Realignment: ADC Gains Momentum as APC, PDP, LP Members Defect

The political landscape in Edo State witnessed a notable shift over the weekend as members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP) defected en masse to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), signalling evolving alliances ahead of future elections.
The defections took place in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area, where leaders of the ADC received a significant number of new entrants into the party. The development is seen as a boost to the ADC’s grassroots presence in the state.
Speaking during the event, the Edo State Chairman of the ADC, Tony Alile, described the movement as a “people-driven” initiative, insisting that participants were not induced but motivated by prevailing socio-economic challenges. He noted that the turnout reflected growing dissatisfaction among citizens and confidence in the ADC as a viable political alternative.
Also addressing attendees, former governorship aspirant Kenneth Imansuagbon characterised the defections as a rejection of entrenched political structures. He stressed that the development underscored a shift in political consciousness among residents, particularly in Esan land, where he claimed support for the ADC was rapidly increasing.
The event also featured the unveiling of new political aspirants under the ADC platform, including Barnabas Odion, who declared his intention to contest for a seat in the Edo State House of Assembly. Odion attributed his decision to join the party to concerns over neglect and inadequate representation in his constituency.
While acknowledging internal disagreements within the party, Alile assured that reconciliation efforts were ongoing to strengthen unity and cohesion among members.
