The Labour Party (LP) has appointed the Deputy Spokesperson of the House of Representatives, Hon. Philip Agbese, as the Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee for its upcoming National Convention. The party prepares for a high-stakes gathering to reorganize its leadership and consolidate its position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Agbese, who represents the Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency of Benue State, is expected to bring his extensive experience in legislative communications and media strategy to the role. His appointment is seen as an effort by the Labour Party to project a unified and professional image during a period of internal restructuring. The committee’s primary mandate will be to manage the party’s narrative, coordinate press engagements, and ensure transparent communication with members and the general public throughout the convention process.
By bringing in a sitting high-ranking lawmaker to lead its communication efforts, the party signals a commitment to a more structured and influential approach to national politics.
Do you believe the appointment of a sitting lawmaker to lead party publicity will help professionalize the Labour Party’s image, or should these roles be kept for non-elected party officials? Share your comments below!
