Cristiano Ronaldo Blasts Terse Response When Asked About Lionel Messi's New World Cup Record

Ronaldo and Messi

Portuguese football superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo, has refused to comment on the recent history-making achievement of his long-time rival, Lionel Messi, at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup. The 41-year-old forward cut a reporter short by saying "next question" before walking away from the media interview on Tuesday night. This dramatic moment happened right after Ronaldo scored two goals to help Portugal secure a dominant 5-0 victory against Uzbekistan in their Group K match played in Houston, United States.

The hot question came after Argentina captain Lionel Messi became the all-time leading top scorer in World Cup history by overtaking Germany's Miroslav Klose. Messi reached the historic milestone after scoring a hat-trick against Algeria and adding another two goals against Austria just 24 hours before Portugal's game. Ronaldo's own two goals against Uzbekistan also created a new record, making him the first football player in history to score in six different World Cup tournaments and the oldest to score a brace.

Instead of talking about Messi, the Al-Nassr striker chose to focus on his own team's recovery after their opening 1-1 draw against the Democratic Republic of Congo. He told journalists that he is very happy with the big win and the massive confidence his team showed on the pitch after facing heavy criticism from football fans. Ronaldo added that while breaking personal records is always a good thing, his main goal at this stage of his career remains helping Portugal achieve its collective objectives.
