Court Refuses to Produce Nnamdi Kanu for Appeal Hearing

A Federal High Court in Abuja has refused to issue a production warrant to bring Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader Nnamdi Kanu from Sokoto Prison to Abuja for a scheduled record-settlement session in his pending appeal. The warrant would have legally obliged the correctional authorities to transport him for the hearing.

The court had previously served a formal summons requiring Kanu’s appearance on November 28, 2025 for the appeal’s record-settlement. The record-settlement is a mandatory procedural stage required under the rules governing appeals in Nigeria.

Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, described the court’s refusal to grant the warrant as alarming. He stated that without that warrant, Kanu cannot physically appear in court for the proceedings, a situation he says undermines Kanu’s constitutional right to a fair hearing and due process.

Family members have also cried foul, warning that the decision could stall the appeal process indefinitely. They urged the judiciary to reconsider, arguing that denying the production warrant violates established legal procedures and fairness.

What do you think about this development? Do you feel the court’s decision is justified on security grounds, or does it amount to a denial of Kanu’s right to fair legal process? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
