2027 Presidency: Atiku’s ADC Registration Sparks a Political Storm

Atiku

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), fuelling major speculation about his 2027 presidential run. He registered and collected his ADC membership card on 24 November 2025, doing so in his hometown of Jada, Adamawa State. This move comes after his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) earlier in July, citing irreconcilable differences.

Atiku’s shift into ADC was long anticipated. Sources had claimed he delayed his formal registration because of the high symbolic weight of doing it in person, signalling that this was about more than just party membership. Some in the ADC see his move as a way to realign opposition forces, particularly alongside figures like Peter Obi and Rotimi Amaechi, who are also associated with the party.

But it has not gone without controversy. ADC leadership issued a clear statement that no automatic ticket will be granted to Atiku or any big name, they insist all aspirants must go through their primaries.Additionally, some regional members have expressed frustration, saying that Atiku must complete ward-level registration or risk losing recognition within the party.

Can ADC effectively manage the ambitions of top-tier politicians? Will its message of “rescuing Nigeria” resonate beyond the elite coalition? How strong is its grassroots structure to support a major presidential campaign? Let me know what you think in the comments.
