Bayero University Kano to Impound Stray Animals, Warns Owners of Sanctions

The management of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has warned that it will begin to impound stray animals found roaming on its campuses and sanction their owners if they do not comply with university regulations.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the university’s Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, on behalf of the Registrar, BUK reaffirmed that rearing animals within university premises is prohibited under its Revised Guidelines for Staff Housing Allocation and Maintenance.
The management said the measures are necessary to maintain environmental hygiene, safety and discipline across staff quarters, including residential areas on the Old and New Campuses, Zoo Road Staff Quarters and the School of Continuing Education.
The statement emphasised that only a minimum number of domestic animals may be kept by residents, and these must be properly confined. Animals found straying will be seized by the Security Division, and their owners will be identified and held accountable under existing regulations.
University authorities warned that individuals found violating the directive risk appropriate sanctions as stipulated in the Staff Quarters Residency Guidelines, urging all residents to comply fully with the policy to preserve order and hygiene on campus.
