Aisha Yesufu, Peter Obi, 2027 Election, One-term presidency commitment

Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu has reaffirmed that Peter Obi is committed to serving only one term as president if elected.

Speaking in an interview with Arise TV, Yesufu stated that she personally secured the commitment from Obi after the 2023 presidential election, stressing that the former Anambra State governor had consistently maintained the position since 2022.

She disclosed that Obi reaffirmed his stance when she sought clarity, assuring her that he would honour his word. According to her, integrity and accountability are central to his leadership approach, adding that she would oppose him if he attempted to seek a second term.

Yesufu also compared Obi’s outlook on leadership to that of global figures such as Nelson Mandela, noting that his focus is on delivering impact within a limited time rather than holding onto power.

She argued that leaders who are not preoccupied with re-election are more likely to prioritise national interest over political calculations, expressing confidence that Obi would keep his promise if given the opportunity to lead.

The remarks have added to ongoing political conversations ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly around leadership style, accountability, and tenure in office.
