Zamfara, Measles-Rubella, Vaccination

The Zamfara State Government has announced plans to extend its upcoming measles-rubella vaccination campaign to over 10,000 settlements across the state, officials say. The campaign aims to reach children aged between 9 months and 15 years.

Launched during World Immunisation Week in Gusau, the drive was flagged off by Governor Dauda Lawal, with strong appeals to parents, caregivers, religious and traditional leaders to ensure full community participation.

The campaign is part of Zamfara’s declared health emergency strategy and operates in collaboration with entities such as the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), UNICEF and other development partners.

Health authorities emphasised that the dual vaccine, targeting both measles and rubella, is safe and essential, especially for preventing severe complications like heart defects, blindness, deafness, and brain damage.

Officials have set a target of achieving 95% immunisation coverage among the eligible population.
