“What Worries Me Is the People” — Peter Obi Demands Vote Protection Ahead of 2027 General Elections

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared that his primary concern regarding the 2027 general elections is not the outcome itself, but how the electorate will safeguard their ballots on election day.

Speaking to journalists during a thank-you tour across Kogi East Senatorial District alongside the NDC’s senatorial candidate, High Chief Peter Ameh, Obi called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to resist political interference and guarantee a transparent, credible process.

“I am not worried about what the outcome of the 2027 general election will be. What worries me is the people and how they will protect their votes on election day... The votes of the people must be counted. There is hunger and poverty in the land, and that is why I came here to see what we can do to ameliorate the suffering of our people.”

Obi further charged Nigerians to evaluate prospective leaders strictly on competence, character, capacity, and commitment to national development rather than political promises, urging voters to remain at polling units through the declaration of results to prevent electoral manipulation.
