“Governors Can’t Save Him” — Rabiu Kwankwaso Warns APC

Former Kano State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) having over 30 state governors in its fold will not guarantee President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Speaking at a town hall meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Kwankwaso cited the historic 2015 presidential election—where sitting President Goodluck Jonathan lost despite his party controlling the majority of state governments—as proof that executive dominance at the state level does not equate to victory at the federal level. He argued that many sitting APC governors have performed poorly, making it difficult for them to convince voters in their respective states.

“Jonathan was the sitting president, and he lost the election. Those who think that because they have more than 30 governors, they cannot lose are making a very big mistake... The trend is that those governors and their parties have performed woefully. It is difficult for many of them to even come out and campaign because, from top to bottom, they did absolutely nothing.”

Kwankwaso urged Nigerian voters to prioritize competence, experience, and leadership capacity over political endorsements, warning that making the wrong choice in the 2027 general elections would carry grave economic and governance consequences for the country.
