Veteran Nollywood actress Toyin Adewale has shared the fascinating story of her son Mayorkun’s breakout moment, admitting that the family initially assumed a direct message from Afrobeats superstar Davido was an internet scammer.

Speaking during a recent guest appearance on the talk show Talk To B, the proud mother recounted the exact moment that forever altered the trajectory of her son's life, tracing it back to the viral piano cover Mayorkun recorded for Davido's 2015 hit single, "The Money."

“After the cover he did went viral, he was with his brother when Davido sent a message, but we thought it was a scammer.Davido later said he would call.I was there when Davido called him, and he was so excited he almost went crazy,” the actress revealed.

Adewale candidly confessed she didn't know who Davido was at the time. However, her fears evaporated once she witnessed the superstar's humility. “When Davido returned to town, Mayowa [Mayorkun] and his brother went to meet him, and he gave them a full box of gifts and money... After some time, I went to see where they were staying, and when I got there, Davido was very pleasant and respectful,” she added.

The actress expressed profound gratitude to Davido for recognizing her son’s talent and serving as the catalyst that launched him onto the global music map.
