Veteran Gospel Singer Asu Ekiye Announces End of 28-Year Marriage

Veteran Nigerian gospel musician Asu Ekiye, affectionately known as the “Prince of the Niger Delta,” has officially announced the end of his 28-year marriage to his wife, Kunemofa Asu. The Bayelsa-born artiste disclosed the news via a formal statement titled “Public Notice” published on his official Facebook page.
The gospel singer revealed that the marriage actually ended a year ago. He explained that he intentionally delayed making a public announcement to allow both parties time to process the transition, gain perspective, and reach quiet acceptance away from media scrutiny.

“After 28 years of a deeply personal journey of growth, experience and reflection, I wish to announce, with a profound sense of sobriety and quiet resignation, that my marriage to KUNEMOFA ASU has come to an end... Some chapters, however significant and memorable, eventually come to an end. I choose to close this chapter with grace, gratitude and dignity, while looking ahead to the possibilities of a new season. For the avoidance of doubt, this marriage ended a year ago. I have deliberately chosen to make this announcement only now, after allowing time to bring the perspective, clarity and quiet acceptance that such a deeply personal transition deserves.”

The couple married in 1998 and shared nearly three decades together as partners. While Ekiye did not detail the specific circumstances surrounding the split, he emphasized his desire to transition into his next phase with grace and dignity.
