Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has hit back at Wayne Rooney’s remarks questioning his leadership, describing the comments as “lazy.” The former Manchester United forward had suggested that Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah failed to inspire the Reds during their recent poor run of four straight league defeats.

Speaking after Liverpool’s 2–1 win over Aston Villa, which ended their losing streak, Van Dijk said he respected Rooney’s status in football but disagreed with his assessment. “It’s easy to blame players when things don’t go well,” he said. “Last year, when we won, no one said that. We’re in it together, and there’s no hard feeling.”

The Dutch defender also backed manager Arne Slot amid reports of pressure following the dip in form, insisting the team remains united and determined to fight back in the Premier League title race.
