David Beckham, Knighted

Former Manchester United and England captain, David Beckham, has been officially knighted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle, in recognition of his contributions to sport and charity.

Beckham, who appeared alongside his wife Victoria and his parents, Ted and Sandra, knelt as the King performed the ceremony with a ceremonial sword. The honour follows his inclusion in the King’s Birthday Honours List in June.

Speaking after the event, Beckham described the moment as surreal and deeply emotional, noting the long-standing respect his family holds for the monarchy. He said receiving the knighthood was one of the proudest moments of his life, ranking above his numerous football achievements—including six Premier League titles and the 1999 Treble with Manchester United.

Beckham highlighted that the honour also recognises his philanthropic work, particularly his efforts to support children. He admitted he cried when he first learned he would receive the knighthood, calling it a major milestone for his family.

Despite his new title, Beckham joked he did not expect relatives to call him “Sir Dad” or “Sir Son,” saying he remains the same person.

“Growing up in the East End and now standing here with this honour… it doesn’t get much better,” he said.
