Tinubu Runs Kabiyesi Government, Peter Obi Will Do Better – Abaribe
Omoyeni Olabode

Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia South Senatorial District, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s style of governance, describing it as a Kabiyesi system where decisions are centralised and dissenting views are discouraged. Abaribe made the remarks while reacting to Nigeria’s current political and economic situation, arguing that the Tinubu administration operates more like a traditional monarchy than a participatory democracy. He said this approach has limited transparency and weakened institutional checks.
According to Abaribe, the structure of governance under President Tinubu has concentrated power around the presidency, with key decisions taken without sufficient consultation. He claimed this has affected public confidence and contributed to economic hardship, insecurity, and rising living costs across the country. The senator argued that democratic governance requires open debate, strong institutions, and accountability, which he believes are currently lacking.
Abaribe contrasted this with his view of former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi. He stated that Obi would perform better as president because of his record in Anambra, where he said public funds were managed prudently and governance was driven by data, planning, and fiscal discipline. The senator noted that Obi’s leadership style emphasises consultation, cost control, and institutional governance rather than personality driven power.
Abaribe maintained that Nigeria needs leadership that prioritises accountability, inclusiveness, and economic competence. What do you think about Abaribe’s comparison of Tinubu and Peter Obi, and how should leadership be assessed ahead of 2027? Share your views in the comments section.
