Tinubu Declares Security Emergency, Orders Mass Recruitment
Omoyeni Olabode

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has declared a nationwide security emergency in response to a surge of violent attacks and kidnappings across the country.
Under the decree, the Nigeria Police Force will recruit an additional 20,000 officers — raising its size to 50,000. The government also authorised use of National Youth Service Corps camps as training centres for new recruits.
In addition, officers currently assigned to VIP-guard duty will be withdrawn, given crash retraining and redeployed to violence-affected zones. The Department of State Services (DSS) is to deploy trained forest guards and hire more personnel to flush out armed groups hiding in Nigeria’s forests.
Mr Tinubu urged lawmakers to review national law to allow states to establish their own police forces. He also appealed to religious institutions to strengthen security during gatherings and asked herder groups to surrender illegal weapons and embrace ranching to reduce farmer-herder clashes.
What do you think of these measures? Do you believe this will restore security in Nigeria? Share your thoughts in the comments.
