The Lagos State Governor has announced that the price of rice is beginning to fall across markets, adding that Lagos milled rice will now be sold for between N57,000 and N58,000 per 50 kilogram bag. He explained that the discounted price is part of the state’s efforts to ease the financial burden on residents as food inflation continues to affect households nationwide. The governor stated that the locally processed rice is available through designated outlets to ensure transparency and prevent middlemen from inflating the cost.

He also noted that the state government has invested in improving milling capacity at the Imota Rice Mill, which is one of the largest in Africa. According to him, increased production has helped stabilise supply and contributed to the gradual reduction in market prices. He added that Lagos is working with distributors to guarantee that retailers comply with the approved rates so that consumers can benefit fully.

The Lagos government has encouraged citizens to patronise the Lagos milled rice to support local production and help sustain the downward trend in prices. Officials also urged residents to report any cases of inflated pricing at authorised sales points. What do you think about the governor’s announcement, and how do you see this affecting households in the coming weeks? Share your thoughts in the comments.
