A Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja has sentenced 19-year-old teacher, Abdullahi Abbass, to life imprisonment for raping his nine-year-old male pupil.

According to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the incident occurred on March 19, 2025, in the Kwali Area Council, where Abbass lured the victim after school hours and assaulted him.

Justice M. Osho–Adebiyi convicted Abbass under Section 2 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015, which prescribes life imprisonment for rape.

NAPTIP’s Director-General, Binta Adamu Bello, hailed the verdict as a “landmark judgment” that will serve as a deterrent, adding that the convict’s name will be entered into the national Sex Offenders Register.

She also commended the Nigerian Police and judiciary for their swift action, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to tackling sexual violence across Nigeria.
